#SocialGathering: Margot Robbie's Major Wipeout; Emma Watson's Feminist Book Club
And Megyn Kelly ignores the haters.
Can't keep up with what's been going on in the social media world? Fret not. Here, a gathering of what the stars have been up to this week on social media.
Margot Robbie's Wipeout
Australian beauty Margot Robbie and boyfriend Tom Ackerley went on holiday, and, of course, the paparazzi ended up tagging along. Robbie posted an unflattering photo (ok, she still looks amazing) of her falling off her surfboard, and blasted the pap who photographed it in the caption. Fans praised Robbie in the comments, expressing their admiration for keeping it real. Bless the actress that can mock herself in a relatable way.
Emma Watson’s Feminist Book Club
Hunger Makes Me A Modern Girl by Portlandia actress Carrie Brownstein is the July and August selection for Our Shared Shelf, Emma Watson’s femme-centric book club. Author Brownstein pontificates on her escape from a draining family life in a coming-of-age memoir, which is littered with anecdotal stories of her experiences as a guitarist in Sleater-Kinney, her Riot grrrl band. Our Shared Shelf (which has 134k members and counting) has previously selected works by feminist authors like Gloria Steinem, Alice Walker and Bell Hooks. Watston launched the book club this year as an extension of her work with UN Women.
Megyn Kelly of Fox News rocked a dress that made chaste Twitter users explode with rage. How dare a woman wear a dress without sleeves? Just a sample of some of the names Kelly was called over this dress: "Escort," "hooker," "prostitute." The journalist, attorney and author has yet to address her fashion critics — this is the same crowd that’s freaking out over a woman running for president, after all.
Fine-ly Dressed Nanny
Aggregator Shanaue Brown is at the helm of the latest (and greatest) niche Instagam account: @whatfranwore. Brown posts stills from the ‘90s classic, The Nanny, and posts designer credits in the captions. Nanny Fine rocked Christian Lacroix, Moschino, Marc Jacobs and Helmut Lang, just to name a few. For those in need a heavy dose of TV fashion nostalgia, this account is a must follow.
Mom Sandals Are Back
Hermes’ Oran sandals are the blogger-sandal of the summer, with all the top gals rocking them. The stylish ladies behind Damsel in Dior, Sincerely Jules and The You Way continue to post photos wearing the shoes in cognac or black. Hermes.com currently offers the Oran sandals in 26 color-ways, so there’s something for everyone. The "Oran sandal replica” is one of the most-searched terms, which is quite ironic — according to Greek mythology, Hermes (the O.G. Greek God) had his famed winged sandals stolen by Oran, an old man that sold replicas of the legendary shoes.
Ivanka’s Just Like Us?
Ivanka Trump headed home to New York after giving her powerhouse speech at the 2016 GOP Convention. The potential first daughter and mother of three took off the stage makeup, hopped into sweats and scooped up her baby (Theodore) — something a lot of us do every day after work. While Ivanka’s convention dress isn’t for sale yet, a similar style is available at Macy’s.
The Reynolds’ Heart of Gold
This is not a drill: Blake Lively posted a rare selfie with husband Ryan Reynolds. The Reynolds' niece, Heather, got glammed up and brought along to Target's launch of children’s line Cat and Jack. As if you needed another reason to completely adore this couple, they invited the "ladies and babies" from The Covenant House to attend the launch.
Goldie Hawn's Instagram Gold
Goldie Hawn’s Instagram is a close second to daughter Kate Hudson’s in likability factor. The positive, happy-go-lucky actress is in Hawaii filming a mother-daughter comedy with co-star Amy Schumer. From her pancake eating to sun-worship dancing, Goldie’s sure to brighten up your feed.
Prince George Feeds Dog Ice Cream
Social media melted over birthday boy Prince George and his latest portraits. The three-year-old celebrated his big day in a blue Breton striped t-shirt and fed Lupo, the family’s Cocker Spaniel, an ice cream cone. It’s good to be 3.
Jewelry designer Roxanne Assoulin and her Spectrum Choker are getting a lot of likes on Instagram from all the right people. Leandra Medine, Joan Smalls and a wide array of fashion editors have praised the line, rocking the pieces stacked or individually. The Spectrum Choker and Bracelet in Rainbow are the must-have items, each with a 3-5 week wait list. (They debuted in her daughter-in-law Rosie Assoulin's fall 2016 New York Fashion Week presentation.) Tip: Best to order now and beat the general public.
