Mary Hager Named 'Face the Nation' Executive Producer
Longtime producer has worked with anchor Bob Schieffer for years.
Mary Hager has been tapped executive producer of CBS News' Face the Nation.
Hager replaces Carin Pratt, who said this week that she'd be leaving the network.
"As senior producer for the past two years, Mary has been a force at Face the Nation," CBS News vp and Washington bureau chief Christopher Isham said Friday in announcing the news. "Her judgment and commitment have been instrumental in guiding the broadcast and she has a proven record of accomplishment as well as the ability, experience and vision to lead Face the Nation."
Hager for 10 years served as Face the Nation anchor Bob Schieffer's producer and has been with CBS News since 1991, starting as a researcher in the CBS News Political Unit.
"There is no one at CBS News more qualified than Mary Hager to become executive producer of Face the Nation," Schieffer said. "When there is news, she just shows up without being asked because she loves the news."
The appointment comes amid a shake-up at CBS News, with Katie Couric confirming her departure from the network's evening news anchor chair this week. 60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley is expected to fill her role with CBS News, with an announcement that could come as soon as Monday.
Hager has covered Congress, politics, the 2004 John Kerry presidential campaign and the George W. Bush White House as a producer on the CBS Evening News.
