Mary-Kate Olsen opens up about early career
Mogul dishes on her childhood, fashion and Heath LedgerMary-Kate Olsen hasn't hit 30 yet, but she's already accomplished more than many adults twice her age have.
The private 24-year-old entrepreneur and cover girl for Marie Claire's September issue spoke candidly about her experiences as a child star.
"I would never wish my upbringing on anyone," Olsen told the fashion mag.
"I look at old photos of me, and I don't feel connected to them at all," she said during the interview.
Olsen has grown from her childhood roles, making millions from fashion lines (The Row, Olsenboye and Elizabeth & James) and a merchandising empire, all co-run with twin sister Ashley.
But Olsen says her current focus is fashion, even though she's booked various projects since her runs on "Full House" and "Two of a Kind," including a recurring stint on "Weeds" in 2007 and co-starring in the upcoming "Beastly."
"I still read scripts, and if something great comes along, that's great ... but this is my day job. The Row is where I go everyday," she said.
The young mogul also touched on her eating disorder and her ties to late actor Heath Ledger. (The masseuse, who discovered Ledger's body on the day he died, had called Olsen on his cell phone before dialing 911, according to a report in 2008.)
Clearly, she's learned from her past.
"I think it's really important to be able to talk when something's wrong," she told the mag. "I learned at a really young age that if you don't talk about it, it can drive you insane."
