Mary Tyler Moore to Have Benign Tumor Removed From Brain

Doctors will remove a meningioma, a benign tumor in the brain's tissue.

Mary Tyler Moore will undergo brain surgery to remove a tumor.

"At the recommendation of her neurologist, who has been monitoring this for years, and a neurosurgeon, Mary decided to proceed with this fairly routine procedure," her rep tells People magazine.

Doctors will remove a meningioma, a benign tumor in the brain's tissue.

The veteran TV actress surprises her former co-star Dick Van Dyke (she played Laura Petrie on the sitcom in the '60s) in an episode of the Rachael Ray Show that airs Thursday. It was taped May 5.

She also appears alongside Betty White and Valerie Bertinelli on Hot in Cleveland.
