'Mayor' gets Canadian cast
Production started on 13 episodes for 2011 bow on Vision TVTORONTO -- Canadian actors Janet-Laine Green, Colin Mochrie and Tonya Lee Williams are to headline the Vision TV comedy "She's the Mayor" from indie producer Hungry Eyes Film & Television.
Green will play Iris, a 60-something former elementary school principal-turned-mayor, with Mochrie ("Whose Line Is It Anyway?") playing a tightly wound, germophobic city manager, and Tonya Lee Williams in the role of the mayor's self-involved communications director.
The Canadian comedy cast also includes Joseph Motiki, Denis Akiyama, Paul Constable and Derek McGrath.
Toronto-based Hungry Eyes has started production on 13 half-hours of "She's the Mayor" for an early 2011 bow on Vision TV.
The Canadian channel ordering a comedy with older characters follows Vision TV being acquired by Moses Znaimer's ZoomerMedia, a media group that targets older audiences.
"Vision TV, with its loyal viewership of 50-plus Canadians, is one of the few networks in the world that would be bold enough to embrace a series built around a character like Iris," Vision TV president and CEO Bill Roberts said of his channel's counter-programming gamble.
The Canadian comedy was created and produced by Jennifer Holness, Min Sook Lee and Sudz Sutherland.
