Meet an Emmy Nominee: 'This Is Us' Guest-Star Brian Tyree Henry

"I call it 'The Kleenex Special,' " says Henry of the hit NBC show.

When Brian Tyree Henry found out about his Emmy nomination for outstanding guest actor in a drama series for his role on This Is Us, he was in Chicago filming the latest Steve McQueen movie. The day of the nominations just happened to be his day off, and Henry couldn't get to sleep. "When it came out, I just screamed," he told The Hollywood Reporter when he stopped by the offices for a candid conversation. "I screamed at the top of my lungs."

The next step was to call his co-star, Sterling K. Brown, who also received a nomination, for outstanding lead actor in a drama series. "Hey man — look, what's up? See you at the Emmys!"

Henry is overwhelmed by the nomination, pointing out that he didn't think he'd get recognized for his appearance in his episode of the NBC show, "Memphis." "I didn't know that was going to happen," he recalls.

When asked about the actual Emmys ceremony, the actor mentioned his need for a Strangers With Candy reunion, asking host Stephen Colbert: "Bring Amy Sedaris with you."
