'Dark Knight' Shooting Victim Slams Megadeth Singer for Obama Comments
"Some people think the President is a good scapegoat, but he didn't shoot me," Carli Richards said after the musician claimed Obama staged the Colorado massacre.
Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine angered thousands when footage emerged of him blaming President Barack Obama for last month’s tragic shooting at a screening of The Dark Knight Rises.
Mustaine’s comments also angered of one of the shooting’s victims, Carli Richards.

“Some people think the President is a good scapegoat, but he didn't shoot me,” Richards told TMZ. “It’s obviously kind of absurd and people who make up conspiracies just want attention."
Mustaine told the crowd at an Aug. 7 concert that Obama had staged the Colorado shooting as part of a supposed anti-gun agenda.
“[Obama]’s trying to pass a gun ban, so he's staging all of these murders, like the 'Fast and Furious' thing down at the border; [the massacre in] Aurora, Colorado, all the people that were killed there; and now the beautiful people at the Sikh temple,” Mustaine said.
But Richards noted that shooting suspect James Holmes, not Obama, was responsible for the massacre.
"Everybody is emotional at this time and needs to blame somebody I guess,” Richards said. “I don’t think they realize the consequences of not being responsible for your own actions, and James Holmes needs to be held accountable for his, to whatever way the justice system deems fit."
On Thursday, Mustaine attempted to clarify his comments.
“There’s some questions here, I just think that we deserve to know the truth – that’s it,” Mustaine told InfoWars.com. "I’m a patriot, I love our country, I’ve always been controversial, I’m a political songwriter and this wasn’t done to hurt any of my fellow countrymen."
InfoWars.com is run by Alex Jones, a right-wing radio host described as a conspiracy theorist in mainstream press accounts. Jones has championed the idea that there may have been a second shooter in the massacre that killed 12 and injured 58 people. Jones theorizes that if the Colorado shooting was orchestrated by the government, the motive could have been to provide anti-gun advocates fodder to further their cause.

Mustaine has had harsh words for Obama prior to his shooting comments. In an interview with Jones earlier this month, Mustaine questioned Obama’s U.S. citizenship.
“Why hasn't somebody moved to impeach this man?" Mustaine said. "With all of the proof about his birth certificate being fake. And you see the signs in Kenya that say 'the birthplace of Barack Obama.' Hello?! C'mon, guys. How stupid are we right now?"
