'Megamind' is Year's First Animated Film to Top All Three Home Video Charts

"Due Date" comes in a close second on the two sales charts, and "You Again" is the No. 2 rental.
Megamind has become the first animated movie this year to score a triple play on all three home video charts. Paramount Home Entertainment's release of the DreamWorks film debuted at No. 1 on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert and Blu-ray Disc sales charts as well as Home Media Magazine's rental chart for the week ending Feb. 27.
What made this feat all the more amazing was that the disc was released on a Friday instead of a Tuesday, so sales and rental data is drawn from just three days instead of the usual six.
Coming in a close second on the two sales charts was the Warner comedy Due Date, the $100.4 million box office hit starring Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis. Megamind, which features an all-star voice cast that includes Will Ferrell and Brad Pitt, took in $147.9 million.
Because Warner delays shipping its new releases to Netflix and Redbox by 28 days, Due Date was only available for rent at brick-and-mortar stores and debuted on the national rental chart at No. 20.
The No. 2 rental, according to Home Media Magazine's market research department, was Walt Disney's You Again, holding down the same position it held last week.
A third new release, Warner's All-Star Superman, an animated original movie, debuted at No. 5 on First Alert and No. 3 on Nielsen's dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart.
The previous week's top seller and renter, 20th Century Fox's Unstoppable and Summit Entertainment's RED, each slipped to No. 3 this week on their respective charts.
Of the three new releases, All-Star Superman sold the highest percentage of total units on Blu-ray Disc (53%), followed by Megamind (36%) and Due Date (33%).
