Melissa McCarthy Becomes Sean Spicer on 'SNL'

Melissa McCarthy as Sean Spicer on 'Saturday Night Live'; Sean Spicer

"I’m here to swallow gum, and I’m here to take names!”

Melissa McCarthy gave Alec Baldwin a run for his money on this week's Saturday Night Live when she played White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer.

Just like the actual Spicer, McCarthy's character was combative with the press and overinflated "facts" about President Donald Trump.

“Before we begin, I know that myself and the press have gotten off to a rocky start,” said McCarthy's Spicer. “When I say ‘rocky start,’ I mean it in the sense of the movie Rocky because I came out here to punch you — in the face. ... Now I’d like to begin today by apologizing on behalf of you, to me, for how you have treated me these last two weeks — and that apology is not accepted! 'Cause I’m not here to be your buddy. I’m here to swallow gum, and I’m here to take names!”

In the same episode, Baldwin returned to portray Trump and once again skewered the president for multiple real-world issues that have been dogging him all week.

Baldwin tweeted on Sunday morning, "You gotta hand it to Melissa McCarthy."

Spicer responded to both McCarthy and Baldwin's portrayals on Sunday, saying the sketches have "crossed over to mean."

Though he said the show was funny, he told Extra that McCarthy "could dial back" a bit and that she "needs to slow down on the gum chewing — way too many pieces in there."

As for Baldwin, Spicer said "Alec has gone from funny to mean, and that's unfortunate. SNL used to be really funny. There's a streak of meanness now that they've crossed over to mean."

On Monday morning, however, Spicer told Fox News' Fox & Friends the McCarthy sketch was "cute" and "funny," adding, "It's part of American culture."

On Monday morning, Trump took to Twitter to say, "I call my own shots... and everyone knows it."

Baldwin's sketch featured Trump's chief strategist Stephen Bannon as the Grim Reaper giving Trump orders in the White House.
