Melissa McCarthy Comedy 'Michelle Darnell' Gets Release Date
Universal also moves 'Clifford the Big Red Dog' off its 2016 release date
The next project from husband-and-wife team Ben Falcone and Melissa McCarthy will hit theaters in 2016.
Universal has set April 8, 2016, as the release date for Michelle Darnell, directed by Falcone and starring McCarthy. McCarthy will play a titan of industry who is sent to prison after she’s caught for insider trading. When she leaves prison hoping to rebrand herself, she finds that not everyone is ready to forgive and forget.
The studio's Clifford the Big Red Dog movie, which was originally slated for that date, has been put back on the calendar for a different date. The film, directed by David Bowers, is being touted as a mixture of live action and 3D animation.
McCarthy and Falcone most recently teamed up on the comedy Tammy, which they co-wrote. After opening in July, the film went on to earn $100.4 million worldwide. The duo co-wrote Michelle Darnell with Steve Mallory; the film is produced by McCarthy and Falcone through their On the Day Productions, and by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay through their Gary Sanchez Productions.
The only other film currently set for April 8, 2016, is Focus Features' Race.
