Beth McCarthy (no relation) has been set by New Line to helm Tammy, a raunchy comedy that the other McCarthy co-wrote, will star in and will executive produce with husband Ben Falcone, who will co-exec produce.

Beth McCarthy is a prolific television director, who has worked on 30 Rock and Saturday Night Live. She also directed the pilot for ABC's cross-dressing comedy Work It. Tammy would mark Beth McCarthy's feature directorial debut.

The project centers on a woman who is laid off from her job at Hardee’s, discovers her husband is having an affair, and decides to go on a road trip with her alcoholic, foul-mouthed, diabetic grandmother. The script is based on a character created by McCarthy.

“It’s about these two women who are not where they thought they would be, and then they kind of band together,” Melissa McCarthy told The Hollywood Reporter of the project last year. “It’s just my perfect tone. It’s so funny, and it also kind of breaks my heart.”

Melissa McCarthy has a lot on her plate. In addition to her ongoing role on CBS' Mike and Molly, she has agreed to star opposite Jason Bateman in Universal's Identity Thief, and McCarthy and Bridesmaids writer Annie Mumolo are co-writing another McCarthy star vehicle set up at Paramount.

She next appears in Bridesmaids producer Judd Apatow’s Knocked Up spin-off This Is Forty

Beth McCarthy is repped by CAA.
