"This was the year of firsts: first holidays, first birthdays, first everythings without mom, without grandma."

Melissa Rivers has paid tribute to Joan Rivers on the one-year anniversary of her death.

The comedian died last year, after she stopped breathing during surgery. She was 81.

The tribute was shared online via Joan Rivers' Twitter account.

"Today marks one year since my mother passed. This was the year of firsts: first holidays, first birthdays, first everythings without mom, without grandma. While it's been difficult, I've been amazed by the outpouring of love and overwhelming kindness we've received from family, friends and people whose lives were touched by the woman they knew as Joan  a woman we all miss so much."

Melissa Rivers recently made her debut as co-host on the rebooted Fashion Police, which included a special segment honoring Joan.
