Merle Haggard Gets ACM Honors, Tribute Album with Jason Aldean, Toby Keith, Luke Bryan
Legendary country singer subject of “Working Man’s Poet,” grabs Crystal Milestone Award.
Merle Haggard may be 76 years old, but the accolades continue to roll in for one of the greatest country singer-songwriters of his time.
Haggard, named the Academy of Country Music’s first Entertainer of the Year back in 1970, will receive the organization’s coveted Crystal Milestone honor during the 49th annual ceremony televised live at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, Sunday, April 6 at 8 p.m. (ET/PT) on CBS by Dick Clark Productions.
The ceremony will be co-hosted by Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton.
Haggard has also received ACM’s Most Promising Male Vocalist Award in 1965 and the first of six Male Vocalist of the Year honors starting the following year. A winner of the ACM Cliffie Stone Pioneer Award and Poet’s Award, Haggard joined the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1994. In 2014, he will celebrate the milestone of 50 years in country music.
