MGM Channel to debut in South Africa
To launch May 1 on new paybox called Top-TVMovies from "Some Like It Hot" to "Mandela" will be beamed to subscribers on the just announced MGM Channel set to debut May 1 in South Africa on a new paybox called Top-TV.
Carriage agreement marks the first such exposure to southern Africa for the classic movie branded spinoff.
Local provider On Digital Media will start beaming Top-TV as South Africa's second pay platform offering 55 channels.
MGM Worldwide Networks under prexy Bruce Tuchman now boasts two dozen branded networks in as many local languages across all inhabited continents. An MGM HD channel launched just a few months ago on Sky in the U.K.
Despite the financial problems of the Lion back in Hollywood, channels exploiting the company's huge library of titles continue to be launched around the globe. No details were available for the terms of this latest deal.
"Consumers in South Africa will now have more choice at affordable prices at the hands of their remote controls," Tuchman said.
The MGM-ODM deal is just one of a number of new partnerships being unveiled this week in Cannes during MipTV with emerging media players in Africa.
