MGM has acquired worldwide rights to "Two Weeks," the feature debut from writer-director Steve Stockman.

It has set a Dec. 1 release.

"Weeks" stars Sally Field, Ben Chaplin, Tom Cavanagh, Julianne Nicholson, Glenn Howerton and Clea DuVall and revolves around four siblings who rush home to say goodbye to their sick mother (Field) only to see her hang on, trapping them together for two weeks.

The film, which received strong support from the Hamptons Film Festival, will open against three other limited releases as well as several award-contending holdovers. The R-rated film, described as a bittersweet comedy, deals with the issues surrounding a family member's death and how the remaining members must deal with it.

"Every once in a while a film comes along with a cast that is near-perfect," said Stockman, a veteran commercial director. "To make my first feature with an acting ensemble headed by Sally Field was beyond my wildest expectations."

The film, financed by private investors, was produced by Stockman and John Marias, with noted casting director Pam Dixon co-producing. Paul Brian Anderson, David Gang, Curt Hahn and Scott Mahalick are executive producers.
