MGM's Lawrence Szabo Moves To Lionsgate
The 18-year studio veteran joins Jim Packer at the mini-major to oversee its TV sales across all North American platforms.
TORONTO - MGM Worldwide TV Group veteran Lawrence Szabo is Lionsgate’s new executive vp of North American television sales as part of a restructuring unit.
The hire follows ex-Lionsgate TV exec Jon Ferro recently landing at rival Canadian producer Entertainment One to oversee its U.S. TV sales.
Szabo will report to Lionsgate president of worldwide TV distribution and digital operations Jim Packer, also ex-MGM who recently came on board to run the mini-major’s TV distribution and digital arm.
Szabo, who was at MGM Worldwide’s TV division for 18 years, will oversee Lionsgate TV content sales across all platforms in the U.S., while shopping new TV content to broadcasters and online platforms in Canada.
Szabo will also work with Alliance Films to release Lionsgate’s filmed entertainment library in Canada.
At MGM, Szabo was most recently senior vp of the studio’s worldwide TV group and co-managing director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, based in London.
Lionsgate is currently focusing its worldwide TV group in Santa Monica as it looks to monetize its TV and film content across all North American platforms.
