Company vet named exec vp affiliate sales and marketing

Longtime Fox Cable executive Michael Biard has been promoted to executive vp affiliate sales and marketing at Fox Cable Networks.

Biard oversees distribution of FCN's more than 35 domestic television networks by the major cable, satellite and telco operators, reporting to Mike Hopkins, president of affiliate sales and marketing.

He oversees negotiations with the major distributors and was a key member of Hopkins' team that negotiated the new carriage agreement with Time Warner Cable.

Hopkins called Biard "a brilliant negotiator with a profound understanding of how to solve complex issues and create workable frameworks for dealing with future challenges."

Biard, a 10-year Fox veteran, joined as director of affiliate business affairs in 2000.

He has played a key role in the acquisition and launch of several networks, including Big Ten Network, National Geographic Channel, Speed, Fuel TV, Fox Soccer Channel, Fox College Sports, Fox Reality Channel and the upcoming Nat Geo Wild (launching in the spring) and Fox Soccer Plus (launching March 1).
