Michael Moore Launches "TrumpiLeaks" Website, Calls for Whistle-Blowers
Moore says "patriotic Americans" are needed "to blow the whistle in the name of protecting the United States of America from tyranny."
Michael Moore launched a website entitled "TrumpiLeaks" on Tuesday. The site is meant to "enable courageous whistle-blowers" to privately communicate with Moore and his team.
The filmmaker and activist — who's been a frequent, outspoken critic of Trump — announced the launch with a letter on Huffington Post. In the letter he wrote that Donald Trump thinks, acts and has stated that he's "above the law."
"Patriotic Americans in government, law enforcement or the private sector with knowledge of crimes, breaches of public trust and misconduct committed by Donald J. Trump and his associates are needed to blow the whistle in the name of protecting the United States of America from tyranny," writes Moore.
On his site Moore offers a variety of ways to submit information, using tools he says are secure to protect anonymity if the source desires to do so. He's accepting information in the form of documents, photographs and audio or video recordings.
"The power and the importance of whistleblowing is part of the American tradition and as old as the republic itself," writes Moore. He quotes Vice President Mike Pence, who once defended whistleblowers and the freedom of the press.
"Compelling reporters to testify, and in particular, compelling reporters to reveal the identity of confidential sources, intrudes on the newsgathering process and hurts the public," reads the Pence quote Moore highlights. "Without the assurance of confidentiality, many whistleblowers will simply refuse to come forward, and reporters will be unable to provide the American public with the information they need to make decisions as an informed electorate."
