Michael Poryes to give MIPCOM Jr. keynote
'Hannah Montana' co-creator to discuss licensing kids TVCOLOGNE, Germany -- Michael Poryes, a co-creator and executive producer of Disney Channel's international tween series hit "Hannah Montana," will give a keynote address at MIP Junior, the kids TV confab that runs Oct. 2-3 in Cannes.
Poryes is expected to reveal details of his upcoming projects as well as outlining why "Hannah Montana" became a global success, both as a stand-alone series and as a merchandising phenomenon.
Poryes' keynote will be the centerpiece of a series of sessions and case studies at MIP Jr. this year focusing on the licensing business in children's television.
These will include a matchmaking breakfast where producer can pitch merchandising rights to licensing agents.
MIP Jr. will also again present its Licensing Challenge award, in which a jury, headed this year by Mattel licensing exec Holly Stein, judge the merchandising potential of new projects. Playhouse Disney recently picked up one Licensing Challenge finalist, series "The Hive" for broadcast in 150 territories.
2010 will also see the return of MIP Jr.'s Kids' Jury. A jury of 20 kids will pick their favorite animation program in pre-school, kids and pre-teen categories.
