"I've worked with an incredible staff here, and I'm always here. I'm always available to guest co-host if I get a call," the former New York Giants star said on 'Live.'

Nearly 24 hours after news emerged that Live With Kelly and Michael co-host Michael Strahan would be leaving the daytime talk show for a permanent role at Good Morning America, both Strahan and the GMA team spoke excitedly about the move on the Wednesday editions of their shows.

On Live, Strahan poked fun at the level of coverage his move received, saying, "I was reading some stuff and it sounded like I died. I'm like, 'It's not a eulogy, people.'"

He then thanked everyone who has watched the show in the four years since he was named as Kelly Ripa's full-time co-host and the Live family, which he says he considers himself to be part of "forever."

"Can't ask for better fans at all. You guys have been absolutely amazing," said Strahan. "And on top of that, I've worked with an incredible staff here, and I'm always here."

He also indicated that he wouldn't rule out an occasional Live return after he leaves for his full-time GMA job in September.

"I'm always available to guest co-host if I get a call because I consider myself to be a part of this family forever," said Strahan. "I just want to say thank you to everyone out there. And I'm not going anywhere — we've still got months to go."

Indeed, Strahan is expected to leave Live over the summer. As for Ripa, who sources said found out about Strahan's move in a meeting on Tuesday morning, she wasn't on Wednesday's show, with Strahan merely saying she was "off today." Saturday Night Live alum Ana Gasteyer filled in, but her guest-co-hosting gig wasn't included in the listings for this week's episodes.

Earlier on GMA, co-host Robin Roberts pointed out that Strahan would be joining their team full-time, with co-hosts George Stephanopoulos, Lara Spencer and Amy Robach all echoing her excitement about the move. Roberts said Strahan would be on GMA on Thursday and will talk more about it.
