Later on 'Live,' substitute co-host Erin Andrews seemed to joke about the controversy: "So what else has been going on here? No, I’m just kidding."

Michael Strahan's Good Morning America colleagues George Stephanopoulos, Robin Roberts, Lara Spencer and Amy Robach got to congratulate him in person on Thursday when Strahan stopped by the ABC morning show for an appearance during the 8 a.m. hour.

He made no mention of the controversy that has erupted since news broke that he would be leaving Live with Kelly and Michael for a full-time role on GMA, with Kelly Ripa taking a few days off from Live and rumored to be extremely upset with the situation.

Instead, like he did on Live on Wednesday, he offered shout-outs to Ripa and Live executive producer Michael Gelman and pointed out that he's not going far — he'll be on "the same network."

"I had a lot of fun on that show over the past four years, and I'm very thankful for her," he said, referring to Ripa. "I learned so much from her. I was so new to all of this. They really boosted me up and made me look a lot better than I really am. I would have never had the chance to be here [at GMA]."

After he left GMA's Times Square studios, Strahan headed uptown to the Live set, where he co-hosted the show with Erin Andrews, his Fox Sports colleague.

Andrews coyly addressed the elephant not in the room, asking: "So what else has been going on here? No, I'm just kidding."

The audience erupted in laughter as Strahan suggested it was "too soon."

ABC executives are hopeful that Ripa will return to the show on Tuesday, when she is due back from a previously scheduled vacation.

Ripa has still not released a statement or said anything on social media about her unscheduled absence from the show on Wednesday or Thursday. However, paparazzi photographers caught her leaving her Upper East Side apartment on Thursday morning.
