From Gaga to the first lady, the young designer has come a long way since launching his label last year.

In less than one year, Brandon Maxwell has transitioned from Lady Gaga's celebrated stylist to Lady Gaga's label of choice — and he's not stopping there.

Though he's dressed a slew of celebrity clientele, including A-listers Naomi Campbell, Karlie Kloss, Kerry Washington and Kate Hudson, the self-taught designer catapulted into a new realm of prestige Tuesday night by dressing the first lady of the United States.

Michelle Obama stepped out in a custom, strapless white gown by Maxwell, which she styled with a sleek, slicked back 'do and drop earrings. The occasion was a state dinner for the prime minister of Singapore and his wife at the White House, which Michelle hosted with her husband, Barack, who definitely approved of her look (see his thumbs up, above).

The achievement adds to a long and growing list for Maxwell, who, after launching his celebrated collection last September, placed one of his designs on the Oscars red carpet (on Gaga, of course), was named a finalist for the 2016 LVMH prize and then officially added to the CFDA's roster.

"A very proud moment," wrote Maxwell on Instagram. "It has been an incredible honor for me and my team to create this dress for the First Lady. Strong and elegant, she is the embodiment of the woman that inspires me to create, and a role model for women all over the globe. I am very thankful for this opportunity."

As for Michelle, this marks the second time in two weeks that she's repped a young American designer on the national stage. At last week's Democratic National Convention, FLOTUS hit the stage in a royal blue dress by Christian Siriano. Many saw the choice as a vote of support for the Project Runway alum and his message of inclusion, after he volunteered to outfit Leslie Jones for the premiere of Ghostbusters when she claimed that other designers refused.
