Mike Nichols in Talks to Direct 'One Last Thing Before I Go'
The J.J. Abrams-produced drama could reunite the director with Nichols, who directed his "Regarding Henry" script.
Mike Nichols is in early talks to direct Paramount's adaptation of One Last Thing Before I Go, which is being produced by J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot banner.
The veteran director has expressed interest in tackling the adaptation, but there is no deal nor any offer on the table just yet.
Jonathan Tropper, whose This Is Where I Leave You already is getting the Hollywood treatment via Warner Bros., wrote the novel centering on a divorced father suffering through a midlife crisis: His ex-wife is getting married to a nice guy, his college-bound daughter is pregnant, and he may die if he doesn't proceed with a medical operation.
Nichols collaborated with Abrams on one of his first projects, the drama Regarding Henry, which Abrams wrote and Nichols directed.
The studio picked up film rights for the book last year for seven figures, which also covered a Tropper-written screenplay.
Tropper has become a hot commodity in Hollywood. Shawn Levy will direct an adaptation of his This Is Where I Leave You, with Jason Bateman, Rose Byrne and Tina Fey starring. He also wrote a remake of Harvey for 20th Century Fox that once had Steven Spielberg circling. And he co-created the Cinemax series Banshee.
Nichols is very choosy when it comes to picking projects and most recently directed 2007's Charlie Wilson's War. He also directed 2004's Closer, which starred Julia Roberts, Natalie Portman and Jude Law.
He is repped by CAA.
