The Lipstick Color We're Swooning Over Right Now
Hint: Miley Cyrus and Dakota Johnson have both been rocking the berry-pink shade.
We dug Miley Cyrus’ rendition of Paul Simon’s "Fifty Ways to Leave Your Lover" on SNL’s 40th anniversary show on Saturday, but we loved her berry-pink lipstick hue even more. Look familiar? It’s the same color Dakota Johnson wore to the fan screening of Fifty Shades of Grey on Feb. 6.
Chalk it up to makeup artist Pati Dubroff, who works with both starlets, and is currently fanning out over the shade. "Whenever I’m having to do a red lip, I’ve been turning to this bright berry [hue]," says Dubroff of the Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro in 504 ($34). "The beautiful pinky-red piping and the flowers on Miley’s [performance] suit absolutely called for a happy lip."
The color popped perfectly against the singer’s polished look, which Dubroff achieved using Surratt Beauty’s Artistique Blush in Grisaille ($32) for contouring along her cheekbones and jawline, combined with a sweep of Artistique Blush Aureole on the tops of Cyrus' cheekbones and "a tiny bit on top of the brow bone" for highlighting.
For the singer's eyes, Dubroff turned to her own namesake line’s Perfect Palette ($42) — a combination of her favorite neutrals (which is back by popular demand at Costco on Feb. 28). “I used a taupey-gray matte eye shadow and contoured the corner socket of the eye and just blended it and blended it, giving the corners more depth.” In the center of the lids, Dubroff opted for a shimmery cream shadow to pop the eyes open.
"In the more recent past we’ve been staying away from doing a lot of eye shadow on her," explained Dubroff. "I think it's because she realizes there was a period when she was younger when she was wearing way too much makeup. … We talked about how it's OK to add a little bit of eye shadow and a little bit of contour on the eyes and have it look elegant."
