Miley Cyrus Dodges Hannah Montana Questions During Jimmy Fallon Interview (Video)
Miley Cyrus tried to avoid questions about Hannah Montana during an interview on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon Thursday. Her father, Billy, declared the Disney show "destroyed my family" during an interview that was published last month.
Fallon kept asking her about Saturday Night Live, which she will host this weekend, and if she misses doing comedy like Hannah Montana.
"I miss doing that stuff," Cyrus said before immediately switching the conversation back to Saturday Night Live. When Fallon pressed about Hannah Montana and how she's "fun" on comedies, Cyrus looked into the camera and joked, "This is awkward! Just kidding…"
She did admit she misses Jason Daniel Earles, who plays her older brother, Jackson Stewart, on the show.
"He is a genius. Jason, I miss you!" she said. "He's now on another Disney show, which is pretty cool. He's on some baseball show that's not on the air yet. What I miss the most is being with him and our banter."
Her father did not come up.
In an interview with GQ, Billy Ray said "I'll tell you right now -- the damn show destroyed my family ... it's all sad."
Asked if he wished the show never happened, he said: "I hate to say it, but yes, I do. Yeah. I'd take it back in a second. For my family to be here and just be everybody okay, safe and sound and happy and normal, would have been fantastic. Heck, yeah. I'd erase it all in a second if I could."
Billy Ray went on to cancel several media appearances after the controversial GQ interview, saying he was "focusing on his family."
A Disney insider told The Hollywood Reporter that both Miley and Billy Ray have been clear with the company about their desire to distance themselves from the Mouse House since Hannah Montana ended its five-year run in January.
“We saw it coming for a long time,” the Disney source said. “She wanted to mature herself, but it kind of backfired. Her future without Disney is TBD.”
The Weinstein Co. picked up rights to her next film, So Undercover, earlier this week.
