'Minions' Trailer Is Most Shared Summer-Movie Promo

Trailers for 'Jurassic World,' 'Magic Mike XXL' and Adam Sandler's 'Pixels' also were shared heavily across Facebook and YouTube, according to social-video advertising platform Unruly.

Universal's Minions topped the domestic box office during its opening weekend, with its Friday $46.2 million North American haul ranking as the best opening day in history for an animated movie.

But Minions isn't just No. 1 at the box office. The trailer for the Despicable Me prequel is the most shared promo among highly anticipated summer movies.

The official Minions trailer, released in November, has been shared nearly 2.5 million times across Facebook and YouTube, according to data from social-video advertising platform Unruly.

The Hollywood Reporter and Unruly looked at trailers for 29 eagerly awaited movies with release dates from May 1 to Aug. 28, including Avengers: Age of Ultron, Spy, Tomorrowland, Inside Out, Fantastic Four, Trainwreck, Ant-Man, Magic Mike XXL, Terminator Genisys, Pitch Perfect 2, Entourage, Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation, Paper Towns, Straight Outta Compton and We Are Your Friends.

Universal's Jurassic World, which also is breaking records and racking up hundreds of millions of dollars at the box office, has the second-most-shared summer-movie trailer, with roughly 2.4 million shares across Facebook and YouTube.

The trailers for Magic Mike XXL, Adam Sandler's Pixels and Pitch Perfect 2 round out the top five.
