MIPCOM: Fremantle Sells Nigella Lawson's 'Simply Nigella' to Australia, Asia (Exclusive)
The British cook's latest show has also sold to New Zealand and Norway.
Sales on Simply Nigella are heating up, as FremantleMedia International said on Monday that it has closed a range of deals on Nigella Lawson’s new cooking series.
The show has sold to Australia (Foxtel), New Zealand (Sky TV), Norway (TV2) and across Asia on Discovery Asia. FMI launched sales of the program at MIPCOM in Cannes. It is produced by BBC Productions.
The deals are for six episodes of the 30-minute series and also cover her one-off Nigella’s Christmas Special as well.
The new series from the original domestic goddess has Lawson sharing the story behind each meal and focusing on specific ingredients, as well as visiting local suppliers and independent food shops to search for produce for the recipes.
“I think about food that translates well to television, and you can tell a story in television through food,” said Lawson, who cooks from her latest book, also titled Simply Nigella.
"The ‘simply’ has a lot of implications,” Lawson told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s finding the quickest, easiest route to a fantastic supper after a long working day, or how do you make it easy to invite friends over without it becoming a stress-inducing nightmare.”
“We’re incredibly excited that Simply Nigella has had this much impact with buyers. The deals reflect the high quality of this feel-good series and Nigella’s enduring ability to resonate with audiences worldwide,” said Angela Neillis, FMI’s director of non-scripted for the EMEA and Asia Pacific regions.
