MIPCOM: Keshet Plans First-Ever U.S. Adaptation of Chinese Format

The agreement with China's Huace Group for 'Dating Hunter' is part of a broader deal.

Chinese comedy format Dating Hunter is headed to the U.S. as part of a deal between Keshet International and China's Huace Group, which was unveiled on Monday at MIPCOM.

Keshet Studios has optioned Huace Group/Croton Media’s Dating Hunter for the U.S. market. That marks the first time that a Chinese format will be re-versioned for the U.S. market, Keshet said.

Dating Hunter portrays a publicist launching a successful dating agency. The comedy aired simultaneously on four satellite TV channels in China and on five major Chinese video web sites.

The agreement will also see Huace and Croton Media develop local versions of Keshet's scripted properties Traffic Light and Loaded for Chinese audiences. The twin projects have yet to attach networks, but production on the Chinese version of Traffic Light will start in 2016-2017, ahead of a 2018 premiere. 

"I’m delighted to announce this reciprocal deal with Huace Group/Croton Media which demonstrates the versatility and global appeal of each company’s formats," Keshet International's Alon Shtruzman said.
