MIPCOM sees record turnout in '07

PARIS -- The Cannes-based international TV market MIPCOM boasted its best turnout ever for its 23rd edition, with 13,371 participants, a 7% rise from last year, organizers said Thursday.

A total of 4,585 companies from 105 countries participated in the market this year, a 9% jump from 2006. About 1,801 exhibiting companies traveled to the French Riviera, 10% more than last year. Buyer attendance also climbed 10% to 4,242 executives.

"This historic success for MIPCOM demonstrates the importance of content in our industry," said Paul Johnson, Reed MIDEM's director of television.

Johnson also cited a 392% increase in the number of exhibiting companies from country of honor India. About 650 industry execs from all over the world came to hear CBS president and CEO and MIPCOM Personality of the Year Les Moonves give his keynote address, and marketgoers also took advantage of the more than 30 conference sessions and 100 speakers throughout the week.

The third edition of the MIPCOM Mobile & Internet TV Awards, also saw a record participation with 280 projects from 180 companies coming from 38 countries.

The two-day MIPCOM Junior event preceding the major market brought together 515 companies from 54 countries which were able to screen 918 programs, including 484 brand new shows.
