MIPCOM: Swiss Banner Viewster Lands British Series For U.S. Viewers
The VOD deal will offer American viewers a slew of BBC series including "Merlin" and Aussie show "Satisfaction."
CANNES -- Deals for VOD rights are flapping around the Cannes Palais like seagulls after a rainstorm on the Riviera.
Latest to unveil a programming package acquisition at Mipcom is Swiss-based Viewster, which has secured a slate of series for its viewers in the U.S. via a licensing pact with FremantleMedia.
Viewster's American audience will now have access to 110 hours from six BBC series - including Merlin, That Mitchell and Webb Look, and Pulling – as well as the Australian series Satisfaction.
"We've found that television series are becoming our most popular offering," said Viewster CEO Kai Henniges. "This is especially true of series from across the globe that aren't as easily accessible free and on demand."
Moreover, he went on to specify, American on-demand viewers have "an insatiable appetite for British series."
