MIPCOM: Warner Bros. Takes Distribution Rights to Canadian Cooking Game Show
The studio snaps up 'Chef in Your Ear,' a reality series pitting celebrity chefs cooking by remote control.
The international production unit of Warner Bros. has snapped up the worldwide distribution rights, excluding Asia, to the format of a Canadian culinary game show on Food Network Canada from The Format People.
Chef in Your Ear, a live studio show that debuted in August 2015, pits celebrity chefs against one another as they cook by remote control. The cooking is done by two novices, each wearing an earpiece and taking instructions from a celebrity chef locked away in a booth, unable to smell or taste the food.
"Chef in Your Ear brings the familiarity of the studio kitchen, supersized and transformed with a fun-packed and completely original twist by splitting the professional chef out of the kitchen to direct our amateurs," Andrew Zein, senior vp creative, format development and sales at Warner Bros. International Television Production, said Monday in a statement.
The hands-off cooking game show also has a France-Canada adaptation, Un Chef A L'Oreille, airing on Ici Radio-Canada Tele. The Canadian format will be launched at MIPCOM in Cannes as cooking shows and physical game shows remain big draws for international broadcasters.
Bomanbridge Media in Singapore will handle the Asian distribution of the Chef in Your Ear TV game show. Warner Bros. International Television has production operations in 15 countries worldwide, with unscripted formats that include multi-territory versions of First Dates, Who Do You Think You Are?, Impractical Jokers and The Bachelor.
The Format People is run by Justin Scroggie and Michel Rodrigue.
