PARIS -- The MIPTV market maintained steady participation and saw a slight increase in total attendees compared with 2007, according to organizers.

Registered attendees for the market stood at 13,285 as of Wednesday, compared with 13,224 at the same time in the market last year and 13,311 at the end of last year's market.

Despite a small dip in total companies present -- from 4,548 in 2007 to 4,540 in 2008 -- the total number of exhibiting companies jumped to 1,716 this year, up from 1,679 in 2007.

This year's MIPTV welcomed 111 participating countries, with Afghanistan, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Cameroon, Gabon, Gibraltar, Iraq, Mauritius, Niger, Pakistan, Rwanda and Uganda waving their flags at the market for the first time.

TV program buyers on the Riviera numbered 4,414, compared with a slightly lower 3,797 at the same time in 2007.
