MIPTV: Baltasar Kormakur's Crime Series 'Trapped' Gets Series Order
Trapped, a crime drama set in an isolated town in an Icelandic fjord, will be the first project from Baltasar Kormakur's TV shingle RVK Studios to go into production.
The 2 Guns director will produce and direct the series, with shooting of the hourlong episodes set to begin in Iceland this fall. Magnus Vidar Sigurdsson of RVK will be lead producer, with Dynamic Television handling international distribution and Dynamic's Daniel March and Klaus Zimmermann receiving executive producer credits.
In Trapped, a murder investigation is launched after a man's body is found in the water following the arrival of a ferry. Shortly after the police arrive to investigate, a blizzard hits the town, cutting it off from the outside world and trapping the town's residents with the murderer.
“I developed Trapped because I was fascinated with the idea of a terrible crime in a small town cut off from the rest of the world,” Kormakur said in a statement. “I am looking forward to putting a new spin on the Scandinavia crime genre for audiences around the world.”
Icelandic public broadcaster RUV has commissioned the first 10-episode season of Trapped, which Dynamic is pitching to international buyers at MIPTV.
Kormakur’s next feature film project, Everest, starring Josh Brolin and Jake Gyllenhaal, is on Universal’s slate for September 2015.
