Sky Deutschland, the German pay-TV channel controlled by Rupert Murdoch's 21st Century Fox, has come on board the new crime drama 100 Code, joining the project as a co-producer together with Red Arrow International.
Sky will take all free and pay-TV rights in German-speaking Europe to the project, which stars Dominic Monaghan (Lost) as a New York detective sent to Sweden to advise the local police on a series of brutal murders. He is pared with a by-the-book Swedish cop - played by Michael Nyqvist (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.) The 12-episode series was created by Bobby Moresco, a producer on the Oscar-winning Crash whose small screen credits include The Black Donnellys and Millennium. It is based on the novels Merrick written by Irish author Ken Bruens.
Fabrik Entertainment, the L.A.-based production company behind the U.S. adaptation of Danish crime hit The Killing, developed 100 Code for its parent company Red Arrow. 100 Code AB and Zen Productions are co-producing. Joakim Hansson, Klaus Zimmermann and Fabrik’s Henrik Bastin are exec producers together with Moresco.
100 Code will be the first co-production from Sky Deutschland to begin production. The German pay-TV group has also announced a new superhero series based on the Italian Diabolik comicbook series, which it will co-produce with BSkyB and Sky Italia.
Red Arrow will handle international sales on 100 Code and will be shopping the series to U.S. and international buyers at next month's MIPTV market in Cannes.
