Mirren, Postlethwaite join Joffe's 'Rock'

Upcoming adaptation of Graham Greene's 1939 novel

LONDON -- Helen Mirren and Pete Postlethwaite will increase the British star wattage by joining the cast of Rowan Joffe's upcoming adaptation of Graham Greene's 1939 novel "Brighton Rock."

The duo join a lineup that already boasts Sam Riley who plays the movie's lead character Pinkie and Andrea Riseborough, who will play a waitress blackmailing Pinkie over a gangland revenge killing.

Mirren and Postlethwaite will play Ida and Phil Cokery, a couple who try to save Rose and expose Pinkie.

Shooting is expected to start on Oct. 18 on location in Brighton and London.

The film marks Joffe's directorial debut and is being produced by Paul Webster for Kudos Pictures.

Backed by StudioCanal-owned U.K. distributor Optimum Releasing, the project is backed by BBC Films and the U.K. Film Council's Premiere Fund.
