Wasikowska in 'Amelia'

Mia Wasikowska is joining "Amelia," the Amelia Earhart biopic starring Hilary Swank that Mira Nair is directing for Fox Searchlight. Wasikowska (HBO's "In Treatment") will play Elinor, a young fan of Earhart's. She is repped by Endeavor and RGM.

seventh Art catches 'FIRE'

Seventh Art Releasing has acquired domestic rights to "Heart of Fire," a new film from Luigi Falorni. "Fire," which premiered at February's Berlin International Film Festival, will be released theatrically in the fall.

FILMAKA WINNER

London's Nuru Rimington-Mkali, 21, has been named winner of the inaugural feature film competition held by Filmaka. Rimington-Mkali was awarded the opportunity to direct his first feature film, which Filmaka will produce.

Magnolia feels 'good'

Magnolia Pictures has nabbed Wayne Wang's family drama "A Thousand Years of Good Prayers" and Trygve Allister Diesen and Lucky McKee's thriller "Red." Release plans for "Good" were not unveiled. Magnolia will release "Red" via sister network HDNet's Ultra VOD program before theatrical showings in the summer.

'Amal' tops at INDIAN FEST

Richie Mehta's "Amal" took the grand jury prize for best narrative feature, while Yunus Valley's "The Glow of White Women" was named best documentary at the sixth annual Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles, which ended Sunday.
