Firm tunes up with Nash

The Firm said Monday that it's partnering with the Popular Entertainment Group to oversee the career of singer-actress Jamia Nash. The 11-year-old performed at the Academy Awards in February, singing the Oscar-nominated song "Raise It Up" from "August Rush." The Firm CEO Jeff Kwatinetz said, "She is the kind of once-in-a-lifetime talent that people will look back at one day and recall the first time they heard her voice or saw her act."

'Cherry' picking

Strand Releasing has acquired all domestic rights to Doris Dorrie's German love story "Cherry Blossoms — Hanamai." The film premiered in February at the Berlin International Film Festival. Strand plans a fall release.

Hoffman upped at CIS

Dennis Hoffman has been promoted to senior vp and GM of CIS Vancouver, part of the CIS Visual Effects Group, a unit of Deluxe Entertainment Services Group. Marianne O'Reilly, president of CIS Vancouver, will relocate to the East Coast, where she will consult on new business opportunities for the company. Hoffman has been head of production since 2007.
