Big night for 'Day' at CineVegas

Rolf Belgum's "She Unfolds by Day" took home the grand jury prize at the 10th annual CineVegas Film Festival on Saturday in Las Vegas. Rachel Samuels' "Dark Streets" and Bill Pullman for his performance in "Your Name Here" received special jury awards. Aaron Rose and Joshua Leonard's "Beautiful Losers" was awarded the documentary jury award, with Paul Eagleston and Stephen Rose's "Hi, My Name Is Ryan" picking up a special jury prize.

Burstyn fete set

The American Cinematheque will present a tribute to Ellen Burstyn on July 2 at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica. The evening will include a sneak preview of Kari Skogland's "The Stone Angel," in which the actress stars, as well as a screening of 1977's "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore," for which she won an Oscar.

Aussie appointments

Australian arts minister Peter Garrett on Friday tapped IBM Australia managing director Glen Boreham as chairman of the new eight-member board of industry superagency Screen Australia. Entertainment lawyer Ian Robertson was named deputy chair of the board, which will begin agency oversight July 1 for an initial three-year term.

'Storm' coming

The first animated film version of the best-selling Chinese comic book franchise "Storm Rider" has been completed after five years in production and will be released July 19 in China, producers said.
