'Howdy' bows

Mill Creek Entertainment has cut a deal with NBC Universal to release 40 of 126 licensed episodes of "The Howdy Doody Show." It marks the first time the classic children's television series, which went on the air in 1947, has been available on DVD. Mill Creek will release the initial 40-episode collection in a five-disc boxed set Nov. 4. A total of nine DVD compilations are planned.

Cinevolve on 'Front'

Cinevolve Studios, a full- service distributor for independent feature films and documentaries, has released its first DVD, "Home Front," a Showtime documentary about wounded U.S. soldiers returning from Iraq. In the pipeline: "Becoming a Family," a documentary about tsunami relief in Sri Lanka, coming in November, and the British black comedy "Twelve in a Box," which will be released theatrically in November and on DVD in 2009.

Fox's horrifying day

20th Century Fox has four Blu-ray Disc horror releases on tap for Sept. 9: 1976's "The Omen," with a new interview with director Richard Donner; "The Omen Collection," a four-disc set with all three films in the original franchise; and "Night Watch" and "Day Watch" from Timur Bekmambetov.

Kelban joins Par

Russell Kelban has been appointed senior vp brand marketing at Paramount Home Entertainment. He will be responsible for planning and execution of marketing initiatives for DVD and Blu-ray Disc theatrical releases from Paramount, Paramount Vantage, DreamWorks and MTV.
