SAG FETES JONES' career

James Earl Jones will be the recipient of SAG's 2009 award for career achievement and humanitarian accomplishment. The actor will be presented with the award Jan. 25 at the 15th annual SAG Awards.

BAFTA/LA SETS NODS

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts/Los Angeles has announced several new honorees for its 17th annual BAFTA/LA Britannia Awards on Nov. 6 at the Hyatt Regency Plaza in Century City: Don Cheadle will receive the Humitarian Award; Tilda Swinton will receive the British Artist of the Year Award; and Stephen Frears will receive the John Schlesinger Britannia Award for Artistic Excellence in Directing.

GHENT IS 'BURNING'

Guillermo Arriaga's "The Burning Plain," starring Charlize Theron and Kim Basinger, will screen Oct. 13 at the 35th Ghent International Film Festival in Ghent, Belgium. The film was produced by Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald, who will be presented with the Joseph Plateau Award for Career Achievement before the film's screening.

ROME MOVES UP DATES

The 2009 Rome International Film Festival will take place a week earlier than scheduled, organizers said Thursday, shortening the distance between the Venice Film Festival and Rome's opening night to 33 days, compared with 45 this year. Rome's fourth edition will take place Oct. 15-22, 2009.
