AFI CENTERPIECES

Darren Aronofsky's "The Wrestler" and Steven Soderbergh's "Che" will play AFI Fest 2008 in the film festival's centerpiece screening slots. "Che" will have its West Coast premiere Nov. 1 at the Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, and "Wrestler's" West Coast premiere will take place Nov. 6 at the Chinese.

'FUNNY' BUSINESS

RZA, the creator of the Wu-Tang Clan, and Nicole Parker have joined the cast of "Funny People," the Adam Sandler comedy about the stand-up circuit that Judd Apatow is directing. RZA, repped by APA, recently completed "Repossession Mambo." Parker, also repped by APA, most recently appeared in "Disaster Movie."

PAR GOeS TO BRAZIL

Paramount has signed a co-production deal with Brazil's Zazen Prods. for two films, "Paraisos Artifciais" and "Nunca Antes na Historia deste Pais," to be shot in 2009 and 2010, respectively. Paramount Pictures Brazil and Paramount Home Entertainment Brazil will manage the deal, which was announced Thursday at the Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival.

MACKIEWICZ AT REGENT

Liz Mackiewicz has joined Regent Worldwide Sales as co-president alongside Adam Wright. She was senior vp international sales for Morgan Creek International.
