Porter lights up 'John'

Scott Porter has joined the cast of Lasse Hallstrom's Screen Gems drama "Dear John," starring Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried, playing a jealous fraternity guy. Porter stars on "Friday Night Lights" and next appears in "Bandslam" with Vanessa Hudgens, out next year. He is repped by Gersh and Brillstein Entertainment.

Dynamic duo

Jane Fonda and Jack Nicholson are among the 2008 inductees into the California Hall of Fame, which honors artists, sports figures and others who have shaped the state. The induction ceremony will be held today in Sacramento.

Luthardt in Perspective

German director Matthias Luthardt has been named president of the Dialogue en Perspective jury, the independent French-German panel that honors a film screened in the Perspectives on German Cinema section of the Berlin International Film Festival. He will present his new film, "The Day I Met My Dead Husband," as part of a special screening during the Berlinale, which runs Feb. 5-15.

'Jerichow' rising

The Cinema Guild has acquired U.S. distribution rights to the thriller "Jerichow," directed by Christian Petzold, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival. The film will open theatrically in early 2009.
