CONNORS UPPED AT MARVEL

Tim Connors has been named COO of Marvel Studios. He will manage Marvel's day-to-day business operations as well as business transactions for all studio productions. Connors was Marvel's executive vp business affairs and operations.

WB CLIMBS PEOPLE TREE

Warner Bros. has unveiled a partnership with Mumbai-based People Tree Films to ramp up its India ventures. The deal covers the production and distribution of three films to be released by Warners beginning in the summer.

3-D B-BALL

Turner Sports, the NBA and Cinedigm Digital Cinema will team to broadcast TNT's coverage of NBA All-Star Saturday Night on Feb. 14 in live 3-D to 80 digitally equipped theaters across the U.S.

UTV DISTRIBUTES DIS

Indian film and television giant UTV has agreed to handle sales and distribution of Disney films in India, UTV Software Communications and Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures said. Disney will continue to handle its own marketing.

RED ENVELOPES RISE

Despite the U.S. recession, business is so good at Netflix that the company spent up to 20% more on its marketing efforts than originally planned. If it hadn't, it would have "blown out" the quarterly earnings guidance, CFO Barry McCarthy told analysts at the UBS Global Media and Communications Conference in New York on Tuesday. His remarks had Netflix shares rocking 10% higher.
