The New York Film Critics Online, composed of 27 Web-based reviewers and two print critics who also appear online, have named "Slumdog Millionaire" the year's best picture and awarded director honors to the film's Danny Boyle and co-director Loveleen Tanden. Sean Penn ("Milk") and Sally Hawkins ("Happy-Go-Lucky") took top acting honors.
A jury on Monday voted in favor of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in a dispute over whether statuettes won by one of its founding members can be sold. The panel sided with the Academy, saying three women who own Oscars won by Mary Pickford are bound to an agreement barring their sale to the public.
