The Minnesota Canvassing Board on Monday certified results showing Democrat Al Franken winning the state's U.S. Senate recount over Republican Norm Coleman. Coleman's attorney said a challenge would be filed within a week to keep Franken from getting the election certificate he needs to take the seat in Washington. Franken, a former "Saturday Night Live" and talk radio personality, ended the recount up by 225 votes in a race where more than 2.9 million votes were cast.

First step for 'Dance'

NBC's new year got off to a fine start Sunday night with the premiere of "Superstars of Dance." The two-hour international dance competition series placed second in the adult demographic during the 9 and 10 p.m. hours, behind only ABC's top-rated dramas. "Dance" averaged 10.4 million viewers, a 3.1 rating and a 7 share among adults 18-49, significantly improving on its lead-in, "Saturday Night Live Sports Extra" (5.7 million, 2.3/6). Fox won the night with a highly rated hour of NFL playoff overrun, followed by a repeat of "24: Redemption" (5.9 million, 2.2/5).

SWIFT TUNES UP FOR 'SNL'

Taylor Swift, who ended 2008 as the top-selling artist with just more than 4 million albums sold, will kick off 2009 as the musical guest this week on NBC's "Saturday Night Live." Neil Patrick Harris hosts.
