WGAW HONORS BLACK

Oscar-nominated screenwriter Dustin Lance Black ("Milk") will receive the WGA West's 2009 Paul Selvin Award. The Selvin nod, which will be handed out Saturday during the WGAW's annual awards ceremony, recognizes written work that embodies the spirit of constitutional rights and civil liberties.

BIEL GETS TECHNICAL

Jessica Biel, who next stars in the May release "Easy Virtue," will host the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Scientific and Technical Awards on Saturday at the Beverly Wilshire.

AFI DALLAS SETS SKED

The AFI Dallas 2009 International Film Festival, which runs March 26-April 2, will include the world premieres of the documentaries "One Nation," "Playground" and "Rock Prophecies."

UNI STUDIOS REOPENS

Universal Studios will reopen its backlot to filming in the summer, just a year after the fire that destroyed Brownstone Street, Courthouse Square and the King Kong attraction. By midsummer, production is expected to resume on those sets as well as an enhanced New York Street.

SONY MINES PLATINUM

Sony Pictures Animation and comics giant Platinum Studios have joined forces to produce a new animated feature from Platinum's 5,600- character library.
