EDINBURGH FEST GETS CARRIED 'AWAY'

Sam Mendes' "Away We Go" has been tapped to open the Edinburgh International Film Festival. Based on an original screenplay by Dave Eggers and Vendela Vida, the picture will kick-start the Scottish festival June 17. John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph star in the film alongside Jeff Daniels, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Allison Janney. The fest runs through June 28.

FOUR SAY 'NEVER'

Charlotte Rampling, Sally Hawkins, Nathalie Richard and Andrea Riseborough have joined the cast of Mark Romanek's "Never Let Me Go," starring Keira Knightley. The film, from DNA Films, Fox Searchlight and Film4, began shooting Monday in the U.K.

LUMA LIKES BURNETT

Visual effects and animation outfit Luma Pictures has named Lindsay Burnett to the newly created post of director of business development.

USA FEST HONORS

The USA Film Festival, which runs April 29-May 3 at the Angelika Film Center in Dallas, will include tributes to Brian Cox, Ray Liotta and M. Emmet Walsh.

'OLD JEWS' ON DVD

First Run Features has picked up domestic home video rights to "Old Jews Telling Jokes," an online video series created and directed by Sam Hoffman from Jetpack Media.
