Guitarist Jim Fairchild steps in for Johnny Marr

NEW YORK -- Modest Mouse is returning to the road next month for a 12-date U.S. tour, beginning Feb. 22 in Oakland, Calif. The trek concludes March 8 at the Langerado Festival in Miami.

Former Grandaddy guitarist Jim Fairchild will join Modest Mouse on stage, replacing Johnny Marr, who has become a member of U.K. rock act the Cribs in the time since Modest Mouse was last active.

The opening act on the tour will be Mimicking Birds, the latest band signed to Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock's Glacial Pace label. Tickets go on sale Thursday.
