NYFW: Get a Sneak Peek of Monica's Go Red for Women Runway Dress
The singer gives us a behind-the-scenes look at the red-hot gown she'll sport on the catwalk.
Every year, the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women event sees women of all ages stepping out to raise awareness for heart disease — and to put their catwalk skills to the test.
At the 2016 show, everyone from Olivia Culpo to Serayah to Vanna White will rock custom bright red gowns on the Go Red for Women runway on Feb. 11 during New York Fashion Week, in the hopes of inspiring and educating women about the cause.
Here, singer Monica gives Pret-a-Reporter a sneak peek at the lovely red number — a custom design by IEENA for Mac Duggal — that she’ll be strutting her stuff in.
What led you to take part in the Go Red for Women Red Dress Collection event?
Monica: It is important to me to be a part of the awareness that's so needed in our communities about heart disease. Many of us silently suffer, but if we unite, teach and support one another this journey will be made much easier. ... There is no greater way to reach the many women like myself that are affected than to be a part of Go Red For Women.
What are you most excited for with this show?
I'm excited about the many unique designs we will see during this important event. But I'm most excited about serenading those who will share in this night with us as the show ends.
Have you been practicing your catwalk or asked anyone for advice for strutting down the runway?
I have not reached out to anyone to help practice my walk, but I will be focused as I take on the big bold catwalk! My daughter and I have been strutting through the house, but nothing every really prepares you for the moment. Pray for me!
