Monicelli, Venice go full 'Monti'

Documentary short will screen at the festival

LOCARNO, Switzerland -- Mario Monicelli, the 93-year-old, Oscar-nominated director, will screen his new 22-minute documentary in an out of competition slot at this year's Venice Film Festival.

The project, "Vicini al Colosseo ... c'e Monti" (Near the Colosseum ... there's Monti), about his neighborhood in Rome, represents Monicelli's first official appearance on the Lido since he won the festival's career award 17 years ago.

Monicelli's visit to the Aug. 27-Sept. 6 festival will be part of an unusually busy month for the helmer, who is accepting the career honor at the San Sebastian Film Festival later in September.
